Film
If you had told me even five years ago that I would have a film section of my portfolio, I would have laughed you out of the room. And yet, here we are. From interviews with subjects to crafting the strongest possible storyline for the editors, I’ve quickly fallen into step with documentary-style filmmaking. It has been a privilege to help tell their stories. Even better, I’ve started working more with the rest of the process. Check out the last video on this page—that was all by yours truly.
The first audience.
While I didn’t conduct the interviews for this piece, I did write the storyline for it. This was the first ever film I saw screened before a live audience. The McAllisters’ story is so important to the mission of RMHC of the Red River Valley. I am honored to have had a small part in sharing it.
Meeting the women.
My senior at the time, Katie Beedy, and I tagged teamed the interviews for this one before I tackled the storyline. For me, it was amazing to meet these incredible women, all of whom inspire me daily to be the best I can be.
Fun fact: Katie was a recipient of the Women of the Year award the same year we made this film.
Returning to my roots.
I spent much of my time as a young adult working in health care, ranging from extreme rural to only slightly-rural settings. Getting to interview and then write Joy’s film was a career highlight. She is doing incredible work for rural Georgia (and is a wonderful human being in general).
Capturing the impact.
It’s hard to explain in words the work that GiGi’s Playhouse Fargo does every day. So, when I had the opportunity to show it, I jumped at the chance.
This video—written, shot, and edited all by me—was for VISIONBank’s 2025 Giving Hearts Day video contest. While the video didn’t win, I’m still incredibly proud of how the final product came together…especially since this was my first experience with film editing outside of TikTok.
